Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is currently at escalation level 4 within the NHS Wales oversight and escalation framework.
In March 2026, as a result of increasing concerns, Welsh Government commissioned NHS Wales Performance and Improvement (NHSW P&I) to facilitate an intervention into Cardiff and Vale UHB, consisting of two phases, an evaluative phase and a delivery phase.
Today (7 August 2026), the independent assessment (evaluative phase) of Cardiff and Vale UHB, undertaken by two Independent Advisors is being published.
NHSW P&I’s Intensive Support, Recovery and Turnaround team will work alongside Welsh Government and Cardiff and Vale UHB in supporting the organisation to deliver the report’s recommendations and the necessary improvement during the delivery phase of the intervention.
