Annual Health Checks (14+) Pilot

As part of our commitment to improve the health and wellbeing of people with a learning disability in Wales, we worked with several GP surgeries to test if Annual Health Checks can work for young adults from the age of 14 years old.

An Annual Health Check takes place once a year. Individuals with a learning disability are seen by a doctor to talk about their health. This helps them to get to know their doctor better, share how they feel, and find out more about their health so issues can be identified early and treatment can be arranged sooner.

The pilot explored the way primary care services offer Annual Health Checks to young people aged between 14 and 18 years old. All of the service users had a learning disability and lived in Wales.
