Diabetes remission

When managing type 2 diabetes, the ideal HbA1c level is 48mmol/mol or lower.

Remission is where HbA1c readings are less than 48mmol/mol continuously, that is at least two readings, six months apart, where these levels have been achieved without using diabetes medication.

Remission is more likely where Type 2 diabetes has been diagnosed within the last six years and weight loss of at least 15kg (over two stone) is achieved.

Reducing any excess weight carried will improve HbA1c, with more weight lost giving better results.
