Everyone deserves to access the right care at the right time. We can support people with a learning disability to receive the right care at the right time by ensuring as our approach in healthcare is inclusive and responsive.
People with a learning disability die roughly 20 years earlier than their peers in the general population and often experience barriers in healthcare that can be simply removed or addressed.
When ‘reasonable adjustments’ are in place, this enables a tailored and person-centred approach for all. We all have a responsibility to create a fair and equitable service provision to ensure people can use services effectively and confidently.
Each one of us is different, and no two people with a learning disability are the same. That’s why we’re asking care staff and services to: Ask, Adjust, Assist.
We’ve put together helpful guidance to share ideas, inspiration, and practical changes you can make use to support people with a learning disability to live a healthier and longer life and improved health outcomes.
