Thank you again for helping shape maternity and neonatal care in Wales.
We’re inviting women, parents, and families to take part in short visits to maternity and neonatal units across Wales.
Help us understand what it feels like to walk into a service — your insights will help shape care for others.
These visits are not inspections, it’s about experience, your experience.
You are eligible if you’ve used or will use these services to help our independent panel understand what is working and what could be better.
You don’t have to have given birth to take part, your experience as a parent, dad, extended family member will be just as important.
We want you to share what you see, hear and feel.
As part of this work, we are using a modified 15 Steps approach, a well-established approach that helps us understand what good quality care looks and feels like from the very first impression by visiting maternity and neonatal services across NHS Wales. It’s not an inspection, but rather a way to observe and reflect on how services are experienced by women, parents, families, as well as staff working within maternity and neonatal services. The focus is on what people see, hear, and feel when they first walk into a service, and how that sets the tone for their overall experience.
Your voice is crucial, because what you tell us, your insights and lived experience are vital in helping us shape services that truly reflect the needs and voices of those who use them.
You will be part of a small team possibly including other women, parents and families, you will be joined by clinicians (who do not work at the site), and an independent panel member or representative.
You will spend a short time in different areas of the services, depending what is on site (e.g. antenatal clinics, labour wards, neonatal units).
You will observe, reflect, and share what you see, hear, and feel.
Your feedback will be captured and used to inform the national assurance report.
