NHS Wales Cardiovascular Atlas of Variation

The Cardiovascular Atlas of Variation, first published in 2019, shone a spotlight on differences in care for acute coronary syndrome, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, and cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors. It helped start important conversations about equity and value in NHS Wales.

The Atlas has now been refreshed and is available as an interactive Power BI dashboard.

Access the Atlas dashboard here.

The updated Cardiovascular Atlas of Variation aims to:

  • Identify unwarranted variation in key aspects of cardiac care
  • Investigate causes of variation, including overuse and underuse
  • Build on the original Atlas published in 2019.

Chapters include:

  • Lifestyle Behaviours and Risk Factors
  • Acute Coronary Syndrome
  • Acute Heart Failure
  • Atrial Fibrillation
  • Mortality

The Atlas will be updated periodically, to ensure the latest available data is used where possible. Phase 2 of the Atlas is due in Autumn 2025 to include more information on deprivation and costings.

We would also like your feedback and input on additional indicators and chapters to incorporate in the future. Scroll down to complete our feedback form.
