If you are pregnant

If you’re pregnant and living with diabetes, there’s lots you can do to keep yourself and your baby healthy, whether your pregnancy was carefully planned or completely unexpected.

Many women feel a mix of excitement and worry, and that’s completely normal. What matters now is getting the right support in place as early as possible. Contact your healthcare team as soon as possible to let them know.

During pregnancy, keeping your blood glucose levels within the recommended range helps reduce the risk of complications. Your diabetes team will be in close contact to support you with this.

You’ll have more frequent appointments, including checks on your eyes, kidneys, and blood pressure, as well as detailed scans to check your baby’s growth. Your team will also review any medications you take for other conditions to make sure they're safe during pregnancy.

Remember, you’re not expected to manage this alone.
